Kat Dietrich and Anthony R. Miller recite a poem with Team San Jose during the ninth annual West Coast Poetry Slam at the Henry Miller Library in Big Sur on Sunday. Team San Jose placed second in the event.
July 17, 2006
Hey all you lovers, and makers, of Poetry and Spoken Word!
It's Monday afternoon, and we're closing out this year's slam, which means it's time to officially announce the winners. Drum roll please:
1st Place: Team Hollywood Tshaka Campbell Crystal Irby Kathryn "Kat" Magill Tamara Blue Darnell Davenport Shihan Van Clief - Coach
2nd place: Team San Jose Jason Bayani Christine Hatch Kat Dietrich Anthony R. Miller - Coach
3rd Place: Team Modesto Jai Chris Bundy Mona Webb Kathryn Gonzeles - Coach
4th Place: Team LA/Green Jason McBeath Jonathan Sam Skow Lara Kaapuni Nicholas Lopez Ratpack Slim - Coach
Our congratulations go out to these four teams, for their hard work, dedication, talent and exuberance for the Spoken Word. Their work brought them to these spots, and they deserve it. We wish them all the best of luck, and success, as they go on to their next endeavours. We also say thanks, and a special shout out, to all the other teams that came down to our party on the edge of the Earth. It could never be as good as it was without you, and your words. You may not have made the top four, but you made the journey, and in the end that counts for more than any of us may realize.
If you'd like to read a report on the slam by a slammer turned Features Writer for the Monterey County Herald click here, and see what he has to say about it.
That's it for now. I'll have a bit more on this weekends activities for you, but in the meantime, enjoy the article.
